How Coaching Works

A Unique Approach to Leadership Skill Development

Having a coach is a very unique and effective experience for making real progress.

Unlike a consultant, I won’t use my expertise only to prescribe a course of action to follow. Instead I will help you apply proven tools and techniques that will expand your own capacity and skill set.

Unlike a mentor I won’t be guiding you to become my protégée or attempt to mold your thinking after my own. Rather I will share experience and insight from which you may draw your own conclusions.

Unlike a therapist we won’t focus on what’s wrong but will look at opportunities to expand your horizons for lasting leadership skill development.

As your coach, I work together with you to clarify your vision, create a strategy to get there, and provide tools for executing your action plan to achieve professional success and personal joy.

We are partners in the coaching journey. Your role is to define the success you want to achieve, and I’ll show you effective ways to identify that. I take responsibility for helping you plan the steps to achieve the results you are seeking, and for staying focused on and accountable to those plans.

During our discussions we will debrief on assignments, explore pertinent events and situations, and strategize and agree on next steps. I will share relevant insights to provide direction. You always have the option to accept or decline my advice.

All of our work will be conducted according to International Coach Federation ethics and guidelines (www.coachfederation.org) that ensure confidentiality and a respect for the attainment of your goals.

My philosophy on coaching is that you are the expert in your own life, and that you are inherently creative, resourceful, and whole. On this basis, my responsibility is to:

  • Discover, clarify, and align with what YOU want to achieve;
  • Encourage your own self-discovery;
  • Elicit solutions and strategies from your own experience;
  • Hold you responsible and accountable to the actions and goals that you set.

The International Coach Federation reports that 98.5 % of surveyed Coaching Clients indicate that their investment in a coach was well worth the cost. I am confident that as we progress through the coaching experience you will join the ranks of my satisfied coaching clients.
